BEHIND THE SCENES of a BEAUTY STORY
D N I C O L E - For the sake of curated beauty.
Makeup, Nails, and Floral Hair Design giving us a Fairy Chic look for Spring 2014. Who is this modern day maiden? She is confident and fresh with a touch of innocence hiding behind the bold sense of beauty she's living to give the world... and she knows it.
Ada was an absolute pleasure to work with because she completely understood our process. It is refreshing to arrive on set to a beautiful face, but a model with the ability to immerse themselves into the character or emotion the look is conveying is EVERYTHING! (Thank you Ada)
The key to every great look is balance. I kept the focus centered around the softness of her skin. Her look transitions throughout the story allowing us to play with subtle pops of unexpected color and texture. Whether done in a bold bitten lip or a creamy wet-lid look, this dame is classy with just enough of a touch of sophisticated sass to keep them guessing. The magic IS in the mystery.
Her skin maintains contours and highlights with a soft-lit under glow and a smooth powder finish. So often in beauty we shy away from the “powdered” look. Using Laura Merciers illuminating tinted moisturizer sheered out with a drop of Vitamin E oil (buffed in ever so lightly) leaves you with a beautiful luminescent base to work with. Set with a touch of powder and finished with Bobbi Browns Shimmer Brick grazing the highlights lends to a sort of rococo romanticism.
I wanted to showcase a major lip focus but in a very subdued way. I must still be experiencing a touch of winter bitten-lip love, because I have been extremely into a lip that bleeds color! Think... a velvet lip with bleeding tones melting one into the other, giving us a very petal-esque feel. This lip reveals an intense sense of romance for Spring. She is "petal perfect".
This is a lip look capable of multiple intensities and she still remains soft, fresh and romantic. How would you wear her?
For a bold look use a combo of your favorite NARS lip pencils, keeping the lip line fairly defined but never harsh. I like to place the darker of the two shades in an odd enough spot that it causes a few added extra seconds of interest from the viewer. Such as the inner top lip only or perhaps three quarters of the lip in a deep berry tone and the very center of the lip fades to red. Then for a softer bitten-lip, let's call her... "natures love bites", use Laura Merciers lip stains. Lightly dance around the edges of the lip line with a clean fiber optic crease brush to diffuse the color.
On her hands Ada showcases the VINYLUX manicure fairy eloquently in shades: Lavishly Loved, Powder My Nose & Sugared Spice. Sometimes choosing a subtle gradation of tone with a contrast of sparkle is just the magic the perfect mani needs.
Ladies and Gentlemen: though this is a Pro-Only option, please be encouraged to seek out beauty professionals in your area who specialize in CND’s VINYLUX. It is also worth noting that many of the shades translate to Shellac colors. For super strong durability and a brilliant finish they're gorgeous and I was definitely very pleased. (I'm happy to post a more in depth article on CND’s VINYLUX in the near future)
We found our beautiful blossoms at a lovely little florist by the name of fLo rE sta, not too far from Attic Studios here in Long Island City. I love fLo rE sta arrangements. They always have a great selection, I find them to be delicate and bold at the same time. In this story we were seeking to leave you with a feeling of bold beauty meets effortless romanticism.
If you're in L.i.c. and obsessed with flowers as much as I am definitely stop in.
This Fashion Fairy's hair was intended to be very "unkempt - coiffed". She is very elegance meets bohemian breezy...
I chose to work with two Bumble & bumble products.
CitySwept Finish, because it leaves that very lived-in but workable texture to the hair. I find this product is great for fine hair because it leaves you with texture without a heavy feel. For curly and or coarse hair; this product provides lovely control, allowing for separation without all of the fluff factor.
Spray de Mode, is amazing as a flexible finishing spray. It's never flaky and works well with heat to create shape and movement to the hair. Both of these little cans of magic have become staples in my kit.
Thank you for visiting and stay tuned for more behind the scenes love coupled with creative beauty realness.
